THIS IS VICK’S STORY

I was the last of my friendship group to get my period and the last to use tampons too. The Summer was here and I felt self-conscious wearing pads, I felt it was time to make the move to tampons.

My friends all used non-applicator tampons, but all we had in our bathroom were cardboard applicator ones. So, my first experience was using an applicator tampon, but try as I might I couldn’t release the tampon and ended up leaving the cardboard inside too.

Then when back in school my bestie gave me a Lil-Let regular tampon and said I may find it easier to use my finger to get the tampon into place.

It took a little practice but by the second month I was an expert and felt so much more confident and secure from leakages.

Lil-Lets have been my product of choice ever since.

So I tried my first tampon on Thanksgiving, which I found amusing. My teacher has this little cabinet with period products in case girls even need anything, and there were these little packets with one pad, a regular size tampon and a bunch of other stuff. I took one packet because I have been rlly interested in trying tampons and wanted to try one. I brought it home and waited for my period. When I got it I waited for like 2-3 days. I went to the bathroom and brought the tampon with me. I know a lot about tampons since I studied them a lot and know the risks, so I washed my hands and got all ready. But I was still scared so I kept asking myself, "Should i?" I accidentally ripped open the wrapper so I just said screw it and opened it. I stood up and look for my vaginally opening, which took a little bit but when I found it I slipped it in and finished. I was kind of in a "frog standing up postition" (sorry if tmi!) The amount of times I kept going back to the bathroom to push it up further was insane. Maybe like 5 times. Eventually I got mad at myself and kinda just shoved my finger up there and pushed it up high, and after that I couldnt feel it. I went about my chores for Thanksgiving, making desserts, feeding my chickens and helping in the kitchen. About 3 hours and 30 minutes had passed and I decided to go to the bathroom to check if it was time to take it out. When I took it out it was FULL. So maybe next time I'll try super since it wasn't a full 4 hours and my period was still kind of heavy. Overall I'm rlly thankful I tried tampons and 10 put of 10 would do it again!!

The first time I used an applicator tampon was when we went to France on holiday and we went swimming. Luckily my sister was able to help me put it up there. If you are struggling just ask someone you trust mum or sister to help.

My first period was at a pool when I was doing breast stroke at the age of 12

To stacy:

Sorry girl but this isn't the place to ask Vicki!!! Maybe you can tell your mum that if you wear tampons you can go swimming and be more active. Good luck!! And I'm a similar age to you
